§ 2-162. Definitions.

For the purposes of this division, the following words and terms shall have the meanings respectively ascribed to them:

Dependents shall include spouse, minor children, and such adult children under the age of 22 years who were dependent upon such police officer or firefighter, and actively pursuing their education.

Firefighter shall mean a person, either male or female, employed, on a full-time or volunteer basis, by the city fire department, in accordance with the existing rules of such department.

Line of duty shall mean the performance, while on duty, of a function calculated to carry out the objectives for which the police department or fire department were established.

Police or police officer shall mean an officer, male or female, in the employ of the city police department.

Total permanent disability shall mean permanent incapacity to work.
